Summary
Legend fields help architects maintain consistent material callouts across drawings and specifications. Use them to create standardized door and window schedules, establish firm-wide finish legends, or maintain consistent product annotations across sheet sets. Because legend fields map to Revit's Keynote parameters, your callouts stay synchronized between Acelab schedules and Revit drawings—when you update a legend tag in Acelab, it automatically updates in your Revit schedules, tags, and keynote legends.
Before You Begin
You need Admin, Creator, or Editor permissions to edit keynote fields
Products must be saved to your Firm Library or a project
The Acelab Revit plug-in must be installed for bi-directional sync
How Legend Fields Work
Legend fields support firm-wide standardization with project-level flexibility. When you add a product from your Firm Library to a project, the legend values automatically inherit from the library. You can then override these values at the project level without affecting the original library entry.
Two legend fields are available:
Revit Keynote Tag: A short identifier code
Revit Keynote Text: A longer descriptive label
Using the Legend Feature
Set Firm-Wide Keynote Standards
Open your Firm Library and navigate to Schedules.
Click the + Fields CTA in the toolbar.
Scroll to the Revit Fields section in the Manage Fields modal. Search for "Revit Keynote Tag" or "Revit Keynote Text."
The field(s) you selected will appear in the Schedules, at the very right hand side of the table. Drag the field(s) to your desired placement
Edit Keynote Values
Locate the product row in your schedule.
Click the keynote field cell you want to edit.
Enter your keynote tag or text.
Press Enter or click outside the cell to save.
Legend Feature in Projects
When you add a product from your Firm Library to a project, the legend values automatically inherit from the library. This ensures consistency across all projects by default. However, you can override these values at the project level to accommodate project-specific naming conventions, client requirements, or specification formats. These overrides only affect the current project—the original library entry remains unchanged, so future projects still inherit the firm standard.
For example, your Firm Library might set a window product's legend tag as "W-01" and legend text as "Aluminum Fixed Window." If a specific project requires different numbering or terminology, you can change it to "WIN-A" and "Fixed Aluminum Window" in that project's schedule without affecting the library or other projects.
Using the Legend Feature in Projects
In a project's schedule, ensure that the Revit Keynote Tag and Revit Keynote Text are added.
If the product has already been labeled with a Tag and Text at the Firm Library, the values will automatically appear.
To overwrite the values, go to the product you want to standardize and enter the keynote values.
Sync Keynotes with Revit
Open your Revit project with the Acelab plug-in installed.
Click the Acelab tab in Revit. Make sure that your Material Hub project is linked (check to see how to do so here)
Click Sync with Acelab.
Keynote values will update in both directions between Acelab and Revit.
Outcome
After completing these steps, your keynote information appears in both your Acelab schedule and your Revit project. Changes made in either location sync automatically when you run the sync command.
